Lionheart Grocery sets the highest common sense standards for simple, real, healthy food for your family and ours, because we believe grocery shopping shouldn’t be a research project.
Did you know that the average supermarket vegetable travels about 1,500 miles (and often up to 2,500 miles) from the farm to your plate? Lionheart Local is more than a grocery store. Behind the scenes, there is a whole network of family and friends working to grow the most nutritionally dense food on our farm in Irvine, KY.
There are countless regionally local farmers pitching in to supply vegetables, fruit, dairy, meat, honey and more to fill in the gaps. If something can’t be grown locally that we feel our customers want, we aim for organic and transparency of the supply chain.
We shouldn’t have to wade through lab-derived preservatives, added hormones, fungicides, synthetic nitrogen, leftover chemical warfare from WWII turned into everyday pesticides, with the objective of deciphering what quantity of any substance is technically toxic for human consumption. We shouldn’t have to worry if we’re feeding our babies lead or arsenic in their food. As we’ve heard it said, you can either pay the farmer, or pay the doctor. Unfortunately, we have found this to be true with our own grocery shopping trips in the past.
We are driven by our mission to make the healthiest food more affordable while focusing on building a robust, small-scale local food system without loopholes and trickery.
The grocery is stocked with plenty of local and regional vendors providing high value products: Things like maple syrup, gourmet condiments, hand-poured soaps and candles, carefully dried spices, tea blends, herbs, special ground grains for fresher flours and cornmeals and more— all with ingredients you can pronounce and understand.
